Relaunch of Sports’ Most Celebrated Literary Series

In light of the COVID-19 situation, the Great Fenway Park Writers Series will be hosting this event virtually.

FREE ZOOM EVENT*

DECEMBER 1ST, 7-8 p.m. EASTERN

TALL MEN, SHORT SHORTS: THE 1969 NBA FINALS: WILT, RUSS, LAKERS, CELTICS, AND A VERY YOUNG SPORTS REPORTER

Montville, the legendary columnist for the Boston Globe and Sports Illustrated who has written best-selling books on Babe Ruth, Ted Williams and Muhammad Ali, among others, joins GFWS moderator Gordon Edes to discuss his book, “Tall Men, Short Shorts: The 1969 NBA Finals: Wilt, Russ, Lakers, Celtics and a Very Young Sports Reporter.” Montville weaves in colorful and illuminating detail the story of how the underdog Celtics and player-coach Bill Russell, whose record of 11 NBA titles in 13 seasons marks him as the greatest winner of all-time, defeated the heavily favored Lakers of Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West and Elgin Baylor, interspersing personal memories of what it was like to be a 24-year-old reporter assigned to such an epic story at a time when newspapers were still king.

The Great Fenway Park Writers Series would like to encourage you to make use of the great local bookstores in your community! For this event, we have partnered with Frugal Bookstore in Roxbury.

If you don’t live in Boston, you might consider looking for an independent bookstore closer to home.
